Questions, answered
How long does onboarding take?
Most portfolios go live within one business day. We do a guided onboarding call, import your existing tenants and leases from a spreadsheet, connect your M-Pesa Daraja credentials, and walk you through your dashboard, all in a single working session.
Do you work with my M-Pesa Paybill / Till?
Yes. You connect your Daraja credentials once. We support both Paybill and Till, with C2B and STK push, and all transactions reconcile to invoices automatically.
Can I import existing tenants and leases?
Yes. Send us your spreadsheet and we'll do a guided import as part of onboarding, no extra charge. The hero page is correct: there are no setup fees on the standard plans.
Who owns the data, and can I export it if I leave?
You do. Customer Data (tenants, leases, ledger, photos, documents) is yours. You can export the full ledger as CSV at any time, and after cancellation you have 30 days to download everything before we delete or anonymise it. See the Terms and Privacy Policy for the full data ownership statement.
Do you charge per transaction?
No, the EzRent subscription is flat monthly. Safaricom's M-Pesa transaction fees, AfricasTalking SMS fees, and KRA filing levies are billed directly by those providers and pass through at their cost.
What happens to tenants paying via M-Pesa if EzRent is offline?
Money never flows through EzRent, tenants pay to your Paybill/Till and funds settle directly with Safaricom into your account. If we're temporarily offline, payments continue uninterrupted and we reconcile them once we're back.
Can my accountant use EzRent reports?
Yes. Generate financial, arrears, occupancy, and income reports to support your accounting workflow.
What about KRA eTIMS and rental income tax?
Receipts are formatted to eTIMS specifications and the platform produces a rental-income summary report aligned to KRA's monthly filing requirements. Reports are informational, always have your accountant review before filing.
How do tenants pay?
They can pay via M-Pesa STK push from their tenant portal, send to your Paybill/Till directly (we still reconcile), or bank transfer. Each method is mapped to their invoice.
Is my tenants' data safe?
Yes. We encrypt all PII at rest, force HTTPS everywhere, harden M-Pesa webhook endpoints, and keep an immutable audit log. Data handling is aligned to Kenya's Data Protection Act 2019, see our Data Protection statement for the full picture.
